Summary of pulley or the gift of god by george herbert
Answers
Answer:
The Pulley by George Herbert is a metaphysical poem which is based on the concept of pulley.
Explanation:
- Initially during creation, after God created the universe, he gathered all the blessings of the world in a glass cup and bestowed them to the humans.
- First, he blessed man with strength, then beauty, wisdom, honor, pleasure and many other blessings.
- Finally God withheld one blessing from man namely "the rest" thinking that ‘both should losers be’ because if rest was given, man will worship the nature instead of God.
- In the last stanza, Herbert states two reasons for the human behavior of seeking god. One is that man will worship God out faith or divine emotions. The other being they seek his help when tired.
- God wants human to seek him like a child and to comfort human like a father.
Hope this helps.
