In Roald Dahl's second memoir, he chronicles his experiences working for the Shell Oil Company in East Africa (now Tanzania) and then as a pilot for the Royal Air Force stationed in Greece during World War II. Because of its subject matter, it is not as light in tone as "Boy," but Roald still manages to find plenty of humor in the war and his African work. He talks in detail about the eccentric personalities he met in Africa, a bizarre encounter with a lion, and the time his plane crashed in Libya and he almost died. This is excellent reading for both adults and children.
