Mortimer, a doctor, tells Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson of the legend of Hugo Baskerville. Hugo was chasing a girl on the moors of Devonshire when he fell victim to a large and supernatural hound. Ever since, the Baskerville's have died because of this mysterious hound. The death of Sir Charles Baskerville has started new suspicions and fears. The next in line, Sir Henry Baskerville, has arrived to take his position in Baskerville Hall, but he has already received an anonymous letter of warning and the theft of his shoe.
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson agree to solve the case and discover that Sir Henry is being followed. When Sir Henry and Mortimer go to Devonshire, Watson goes with them as Holmes is busy with other cases as well. Watson meets potential suspects - Mr. Barrymore and Mrs. Barrymore, the servants of Baskerville Hall, and Mr. Jack Stapleton and his sister Beryl, Sir Henry's neighbors.
Many mysteries occur rapidly. Barrymore is caught sneaking around the mansion at night, Watson sees a lonely figure on the moor, Watson hears sounds of a dog howling, Beryl Stapleton gives a forceful warning and Watson learns of secret meetings between former Sir Charles and Laura Lyons, a woman living in a local town.
