1. On a literal level, “Epilogue” is talking about Lowell’s efforts he put into each poem. He talks about his desire to create new work instead of following everyone else’s. He also compares being a poet to being an artist, with each poem like a painting. He talks about how he uses snapshots of his life to create the poems – he even mentions that life is dull but the snapshots which are captured through poetry are what make life interesting.
