The poetess is very emotional in this poem. She writes this poem during the British rule in India. She laments at the martyrs of India and feel pity on the Indian rulers as they could not save the sovereignty of their fellow brothers.

The Indians were sent to Persia, Germany and other places to fight on behalf of the British and they were not even brought back to their mother land after they were died. She condemns British for usurping the right of the sons of a mother to die in their mothers lap.

She declares in the poem that none other than India can be honoured for the sacrifices she had done in the annals of history. The heart of India is filled with deep grief and sorrow. She further says that only in prayers can we find solace of our heart and mind.
