I this poem, the poet comes to a point where the road diverge into two...the first was full of greenery and was cheerful while the other was gloomy and went into woods as far as one can see.... having adventurous nature he chose the second road and chose to be different than others ....his this choice made much difference in his life

In this poem the poet has a option of choosing two roads one is grassy and travelled by more people and another road is stony and travelled by less people but he made a mistake of choosing the stony path because he thought it to be adventurous and now he is regretting for his mistake which he did to choose the wrong path and now he is feeling shame to tell everyone that he had chosen the wrong path this is a symbolic form of doing a mistake in life by the poet in which he is telling in the poem.....hope it helps
