Answer:    I’m reading quite a few short books of late. In a way, it is wonderful. I am able to see that it is not the length of the story that makes quality reading. I’ve not read much of Satyajit Ray’s works, so when I saw this book among the ten-minute reads option, I had no hesitation to pick it up.

The story is about a magician, one of the country’s most known. It shares his journey, from humble beginnings to his rise to fame. It introduces us to his teacher, and how he taught that magician a lot of true magic. It builds up to the end, which I shall not reveal, but one that I couldn’t have predicted, though I did try.

The language is simple, and it is beautiful and engaging too. It drew me into the story, and keep me hooked. The characters are quite believable and well fleshed too. In its own way, I felt the story encourages the reader to hone their skill, and not seek shortcuts to success. Though it may work, that success doesn’t last as long as the path of hard work. It also shows a teacher’s legacy too. I love the ending, as I mentioned earlier too.

Some stories are unforgettable. This is one such.

Answer:

Surpati Mondol, a famous Bengali magician, is travelling to lucknow for a big show. Sitting inside the train carriage, Surpati falls into a reverie, remembering the magician who had inspired him. His first teacher had been Tripuracharan Mallik, a very simple man who had a special trick of making a coin go rolling towards a ring and bringing both of them back to the magician.

Surpati came out of his review with a start. The train had just begun to pull out of the station when a man opened the door of his carriage from outside and clambered in.Surpati was above to protest that the seats were reserved, but on look at the man's face made him stop short in amazement. Good God-it

was Tripura Babu!

Tripuracharan Mallik!

Surpati remained speechless.

Tripura Babu placed the bundle he was carrying on the bench opposite and sat down.

Then he looked at Surpati and smiled, "Surprised?"

Surpati swallowed hard."I...yes ,I'm surprised.

In fact,I wasn't sure that you were still alive!"

"Really?"
