Explanation:
The Wind Cap is a classic short story written by Jane Hyatt Yolen in 1939. It is about a boy named John who really desired to go to the sea and become a sailor. But his mother restricted him by saying that being a farmer's son he should fulfil his duties there. One day he rescued a turtle from a dirty mud patch. He observed that the turtle had turned into a fairy. She wanted to thank him by granting his wishes. Though reluctant at first, he spoke about his wish to go to the sea. The fairy gave him a special striped cap like a sailor which could control the winds. He set off on a sailing adventure and soon grew famous among the sailors as he was very efficient. He had not set foot on land for about a year. He wanted to go back. He kept requesting the Captain to go and see his mother. But he was not allowed. On a lazy afternoon he was asleep when suddenly some winds rocked the ship. The saliors panicked and threw him along with the cap in the sea. They tried to remove and shook the cap but the winds rocked the ship. No one had witnessed such a violent storm before. When John went under the sea the cap came off and the winds stopped. He returned home and again kept dreaming of the sea. One day he clutched the cap under his arm and again went to the sea. He found a balance and spent six months in the sea and six months on land. When he bought his own ship and about a hundred acres of land, he became known as Captain Turtle. He could win both over sea and on land.
