Explanation:

In the very first stanza,the poet requests the wind the come slowly and gently.She tells the wind not to break the shutters of the widows; not to scatter papers; and not to throw down books off the shelf. She then scolds the wind on tearing the pages,throwing the books and bringing rain (the wind brings rain by bringing the clouds due to high wind speeds).

The wind, according to the poet, is very clever at making fun of weaklings.The wind god,symbolizing problems or adversities of life,crushes and separates all weak houses,doors,rafters and hearts and bodies(referring to people). He wont listen to anyone. The poet now suggests all people the build strong houses; firm doors; be physically and mentally strong and make their hearts steadfast. By doing this the wind or problems will be our friends.

The last stanza is VERY SIGNIFICANT. The poet says that then wind blows off tiny fires and ,on the other hand, it make strong fires flourish and fierce. Similarly, if the fire inside you or your will power is small the problems of life will knock you out. But if your will power is strong and you are bold, then the difficulties of life will make you stronger,smarter and bolder.So, you should know how to face and overcome the adversities and challenges of life.
