Sunil is standing between two walls. The wall closest to him is at a distance of 360 m. If he shouts, he hears the first echo after 4 s and the another after another 2 seconds.
1. What is the velocity of sound in the air?
2. What is the distance between two walls?

1. distance between sunil and the closest wall=360m
time taken for echo to be heard=4s
velocity= 2×distance/time
velocity=2×360/4
velocity=180m/s
2.let 2x be the distance between sunil and the second wall because sound is reflected back from the wall
time taken for the second echo to be heard=4+2=6s
2x=velocity×time
2x=180×6
2x=1080
x=1080/2
x=540m
Now total distance or the distance between both the walls=distance between sunil and closest wall+distance between sunil and the second wall
=360m+540m
=900m
hope this helps you....
