hey mate here the starting point and the final point is different and is in straight line so

distance = displacement

hence,

speed = velocity.

speed = distance/ time

= 100/50 = 2 m/sec

speed = velocity = 2 m/sec

Given : the boy first runs a distance of 100 metres in 50 seconds in going from his home to the shop in the East direction, and then runs a distance of 100 metres again in 50 seconds in the reverse direction from the shop to reach back home from where he started

( complete Question)

To Find:

What will be the displacement of the boy?

(i) 200 m (ii) 0 m (iii) 150 m (iv) -200 m

Find the average speed of the boy.

(i) 1 m/s (ii) 2 m/s (iii) 3 m/s (iv) none of these

c. Find the velocity of the boy.

(i) 10m/s (ii) 4m/s (iii) 0 m/s (iv) 2 m/s

Solution:

Displacement = Final Position - Initial Position

as boy returns  back to original position

Hence Final Position - Initial Position = 0

=> Displacement =  0  m

velocity = Displacement / Time

=> Velocity = 0/(50 + 50)  = 0 m/s

Average Speed = Total Distance / Total Time

=>Average Speed = (100 + 100)/(50 + 50)

=> Average Speed = 2 m/s
