Basically, a light year is the distance traveled by light in a time period of one year. So, any change that occurs a light year away from us can be seen after one year. In the same way, a change i.e explosion of the star that is 100 light years away reaches us after 100 years as light reaches us only after that period of time. It is unlikely because, in the present situation of the world the life span of a human is just 80-90 years.

It is highly unlikely that a person alive today lives to see the exploding star as light from the star will take 100

years to reach the earth.
