No.. hair or fur absorbs more water than scales. As a result the body of fish would become heavy. And thus they won't be able to swim swiftly or smoothly.

Answer:

No, replacing the scales with hairs would make the fishes very inefficient swimmers.

Explanation:

  • The fish have scales all over their body which are direct opposite to the flow of water. This leads to reducing the friction between the fish and water.
  • The scales are also covered with slimy mucilage which leads to reducing friction.
  • The scales in some fish also act as protective organs.

So, if the scales were replaced by the hair, it would not be suitable for swimmers.
