Suppose that you are 5 feet 3 inches tall and cast a shadow 10 feet 6 inches long. If you are standing next to a tree that casts a shadow that is 52 feet long, about how tall is the tree?

Answer:

if we draw the diagram of both situation it will make two similar triangle ( with same angle in each side) so their ratio will be as follow

  • height of men/ length of shadow = height of tree/ length of tree's shadow
  • 5.3/10.6=height of tree/ 52
  • 1/2= height of tree/52
  • height of tree= 26 feet
