If the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Chhattisgarh and Odisha have different policies on how the state police should respond to the Naxalites, the Prime Minister of India cannot intervene.
- Because "Police" is the subject matter, the Prime Minister of India cannot interfere and issue an order to the police of any individual state.
- Police is a state topic over which only the state has the authority to enact legislation.
- As a result, Chief Ministers are not required to follow the Prime Minister's directions.
- The State List-II is a list of things in Schedule 7 of the Indian Constitution.
- Police (including village and railway police) are included in the State List, and decisions concerning the state list may be made exclusively by the particular state, not the national government or anybody else.
