A karyotype is a technique by which the chromosomes under the microscope can be studied. In a karyotype, the chromosomes are arranged and numbered, based on size from largest to smallest, centromere position. During Metaphase stage of mitosis cell division, the chromosomes shorten and become more tightly coiled making their shapes more distinct and become more visible under the light microscope
