D = total distance traveled by surekha to reach office = 10 km

d₁ = distance traveled by surekha by walk = 0.5 km

v₁ = speed of walking of surekha = 8 km/h

t₁ = time taken by surekha to walk

time taken by surekha to walk is given as

t₁ = d₁ /v₁ = 0.5/8 = 0.0625 h


d₂ = distance traveled by surekha by bus = D - d₁ = 10 - 0.5 = 9.5 km

v₂ = speed of bus  = 40 km/h

t₂ = time taken by surekha by bus

time taken by surekha by bus is given as

t₂ = d₂ /v₂= 9.5/40 = 0.2375 h

Total time taken to reach the office is given as

t = t₁ + t₂ = 0.0625 + 0.2375

t = 0.3 hours
