QUESTION

Water flows at the rate of 2 meter per minute from a cylindrical pipe of 2 cm diameter. How long will it take to up a conical vessel whose diameter at the base is 60 cm and depth 12cm

GIVEN:-

  • Flowing rate of water = 200cm/min
  • Diameter of cylindrical pipe = 2cm
  • Diameter of conical vessel = 60cm
  • Height of the conical vessel = 12cm

SOLUTION

Since, water flows 2m in 1 min thus, the length or height of the pipe will be 2m .

↣ Area of cylindrical pipe = πr²h

↣ Area of cylindrical pipe = π ×1×1×200

↣ Area of cylindrical pipe = 200π

Now, Area of conical vessel = 1/3 πr² h

↣ Area of conical vessel = 1/3 ×π ×30×30 ×12

↣ Area of conical vessel =30×30×4 π

↣ Area of conical vessel = 900×4π

↣ Area of conical vessel = 3600 π

Total time taken to fill the tank =Area of conical vessel /area of cylindrical pipe =3600π/200π = 18min .

Thus, it will take 18 minutes to fill the tank.
