Survey of five families
Answers
Funded by First 5 LA, the First 5 LA Family Survey will provide representative data about key indicators of well-being for children zero to five and their parents across 14 communities in Los Angeles County participating in Best Start. Best Start is an ambitious place-based initiative with the goal of improving outcomes for children zero to five by ensuring children are born healthy, maintain a healthy weight, are free from abuse and neglect and enter school ready to learn.
NORC at the University of Chicago has been selected to design and conduct the first survey, which will collect data from parents of children ages zero to five, including health, daily routines, and child care. Data from the first wave of the Family Survey provide an important next step in the community planning process and occurs within the context of data-based decision making in Best Start. The target is approximately 300 parent interviews in each of 14 communities.
The Family Survey leverages NORC's expertise in address-based sampling design and multi-mode data collection, integrating mail, telephone, and field data collection.
Overall this project will allow for multi-mode data collection in 14 communities in L.A. The resulting data will help guide First 5 LA in their goal of improving health outcomes for children zero to five, and will help guide their programs and community planning processes.
