Step-by-step explanation:

ANSWER:-

Given that:-

  • Susan had $ 120
  • Patrick had twice the money as her.
  • Susan received some money and Patrick spent some money.
  • The amount of money received by Susan is thrice of Patrick.
  • They had same money in end.

Concept:-

Linear Equations and Cases

Let's Do!

Let us consider the amount of money of Patrick as $ 240, as its said that he had twice money as she had.

Let the money received by Susan and spent by Patrick be x.

So, equation ;-

\sf{x + 120 = 3( 240 - x)}

\sf{x + 120 = 720 - 3x}

\sf{x + 3x= 720 - 120}

\sf{4x = 600}

\sf{x = \dfrac{600}{4}}

\sf{x =150}

So, Susan received $ 150 at the end, hence the answer.

Answer:

Given :-

  • Susan had $120
  • Patrick had twice money at first
  • Susan recived and Patrick spent some money
  • The amount Susan received was 3 times as much as the amount Patrick spent
  • At last they have same amount

To Find :-

Money Susan recived

Solution :-

At first Patrick had twice of Susan.

Hence,

He have 2 × 120 = $240

Let the money received be x

x + 120 = 3(240 - x)

x + 120 = 720 - 3x

3x + x = 720 - 120

4x = 720 - 120

4x = 600

x = 600/4

x = 150
