Given :

  • Total weight of grapes box bought by Sushil = 10 kg
  • Grapes given to Punit = 3¼ kg
  • Grapes given to Anita = 2 ¼kg

To Find :

  • Grapes left with Sushil.

Solution :

In this question, it is given that a boy name Sushil bought a 10kg of box of grapes from market and he gave 3¼kg of grapes to his friend Punit and 2 1/4 kg to Anita and we have to find the weight of grapes left with Sushil. For this we will convert the weight into improper fraction after that we will add the weight of grapes given to Punit and Anita and at last we will substrate that from total weight.

Converting weights to improper fraction :

  • Grapes given to Punit = 3¼
  • Grapes given to Punit = 3 × 4 + 1/4
  • Grapes given to Punit = 12 + 1/4
  • Grapes given to Punit = 13/4 kg

  • Grapes given to Anita = 2¼kg
  • Grapes given to Anita = 2 × 4 + 1/4
  • Grapes given to Anita = 8 + 1/4
  • Grapes given to Anita = 9/4 kg

Weigh of Grapes left with Sushil :

  • Total Weight of Grapes - (Grapes given to Punit + Grapes given to Anita)
  • 10 - (13/4 + 9/4)
  • 10 - (4/4)
  • 10 - 4/4
  • 10 × 4/1 × 1 - 4/4
  • 40/4 - 4/4
  • 40 - 4/4
  • 36/4
  • 9 kg

Therefore :

  • 9 kg of grapes is left with Sushil.
