Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a campaign against squalor, untidiness, garbage, launched by Indian Prime Minister Narender Modi on October 2, 2014. The campaign aims to make India neat, clean, and green by instilling in people a sense of responsibility towards personal and public cleanliness and hygiene.  

‘Charity begins at home’, which means we should help and care for our own family first, before we start helping other people.  

The entire nation is abuzz with the cleanliness drives and campaigns under the impetus of ‘Swachch Bharat Abhiyan’.  We must ensure we become the real participant in this crusade against the dirt and squalor in true spirit. We must start the cleanliness drive from our own home and surroundings.  Our zeal and enthusiasm for the cleanliness drive is useless, if our own home and surroundings are unclean, and we are spending hours cleaning the streets in other areas.

Similarly, people who keep themselves clean and their surroundings clean, can help other people to achieve cleanliness objectives.

Besides, a man or woman who keeps himself/herself clean is an inspiration for many. By being perfect role-models we can do much more than by volunteering for cleanliness rallies, which are usually organized for hype in media!

So let the cleanliness begin at your own home! If each one starts maintaining cleanliness at his or her own home, the entire nation will automatically become clean.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a cleanliness drive launched by the Government of India, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2 October 2014, on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 145th birthday. This campaign was launched with the objective of cleaning up all over India. The Prime Minister has appealed to the people to join the Swachh Bharat Mission and inspire others to join it so that our country can become the best and the cleanest in the world. This campaign was started by Narendra Modi himself by cleaning the road.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is India’s biggest cleanliness drive, which was inaugurated by students and government employees of nearly 3 million schools and colleges. On the inauguration, the Prime Minister announced the names of nine celebrities and asked them to step up the cleanliness drive in their area and motivate the general public to join it. He also said that these celebrities should motivate the next 9 people to join it and this chain will continue till its message reaches all over India.

He also said that every Indian should take this as a challenge and do their utmost to make this campaign a success. He requested the general public to join it and said that they should put a picture of cleanliness on social media such as Facebook, Twitter and other websites and inspire other people to join it. In this way India can be a clean country.

Under this mission, cleanliness survey is done every year, under which Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra are the first, second and third cleanest states of this year respectively in the Swachhta Survekshan 2019. These types of events keep people excited and they try hard to win.
