By the condition given in your question we get equation
x + y = 12. ... ( l )
19x + 29y = 298. .... ( 'll )
multiplying equation ( l ) by 19
19x + 19y = 228. .... ( ll )
subtracting equation ( lll ) from ( 'll )
10y = 70
y = 7
putting y = 7 in equation ( l ) we get
x + y = 12
x + 7 = 12
x = 5
