The larger drum, called Bayan, was originally made from clay, but is now constructed of metal (bras, steel, or copper).
Among the percussion instruments, 'tabla' is one of the most important musical instruments in India. Tabla plays an important role in accompanying vocalists, instrumentalists and dancers in every style of music from classical to light in India, mainly used for keeping rhythm.
The tabla consists of two drums, the bayan or the left drum and the dayan or the right drum, but the collective name for both the drums is tabla.
