AMORPHOUS FORMS OF CARBON ARE AS FOLLOWS .......

1) COKE

NATURE...

Coke is a black porous substance.

IT is produced by the destructive distillation of coal burning of substance without the presence of air is known as destructive distillation it produces many by products like Ammonical liquor the Residue left Behind is called Coke .It contains about 90% carbon .

USES ..

1) It is used in iron and steel Industries as a reducing agent .

2) It is used in the purification of water gas (CO +H2) and producer gas (CO+N2).

3) It is used in the extraction of metals from their oxides and sulphur ores......

LAMPBLACK OR SOOT

NATURE ...

It is a soft porous substance produced by burning carbon substances such as turpentine oil, kerosene oil etc. in an insufficient supply of air . The smoke produced is then collected in Chambers where wet coarse blankets have been hung . The soot is deposited on the blankets and removed on drying. It is found that lampblack consists of extremely small crystals of Graphite .It is a non conductor of heat and electricity ...

USES

1) It is used in the manufacturing of printing ink, typewriter Ribbon, black paint and varnishes under the name carbon black .

2) It is also used for colouring rubber and leather products.

3) It is used as a filler in making rubber Tyres and plastics ..

CHARCOAL

NATURE

Charcoal is mainly carbon .It is produced by burning wood in an insufficient supply of air or without the presence of air ..

USES

1) It absorbs gases and decolourises and deodorizes and is a bad conductor of heat and electricity .

2) Charcoal floats on water due to the absorb the gases but if the water is boiled the gases escape and charcoal sinks to the bottom .........
