Based on the nature of particle size , solutions are classified into 3 categories namely (1) True solution (2) colloid solution (3) suspension . A part from the size difference of particles , these sub-categories of the solutions also show considerble difference in their nature ,colour, filtarability and appearance

1. TRUE SOLUTION : mixture of 2 or more substances in which the solute completely dissolves in the solvent. the size of particle in true solution is less than 1nm in diameter .

2. COLLOID SOLUTION : a hetrogenus mixture of 2 or more substances in which the substance is evenly suspended in the other. the size of particle in colloid solution is larger than that of a true solution and smaller than suspension . The size rang of particle in colloid solution is 1 - 1000nm in diameter.

3. SUSPENSION : the size of the particle will be greater than 1000nm. mixture of 2 or more substances .
