After a few hours, the white colour flower will change into red or blue colour due to the upward movement of colour-containing water.

Explanation:

  • The water movement up a plant is due to xylem, the vascular tissue.
  • Despite the absence of a heart or circulatory system in plants, the flow of the water upward through the xylem in plants is achieved fairly high rate up to 15 meters per hour.
  • The water is mainly pulled through the plants. The transpiration driven ascent of xylem sap depend s mainly on the three physical properties of water:- Cohesion, Adhesion and Surface tension.
  • The cohesion is the mutual force of attraction between the water molecules. Adhesion is the attraction of the water molecules are attracted to each other in the liquid phase than the water in the gas phase.
  • The water rises in the stems of the plants by capillary action. In plants, capillarity is aided by the small diameter of the tracheary elements of the xylem.
