sponge's body has several pores and it is a sedantry organism attached to the substratum and it can be compressed easily because its pores absorb air in normal shape but when it is compressed air flows out, it is a solid because I does not flow and does not show any property of liquids of gasses except compressibility , we are not able to compress a wooden block because it has less voids and the inter molecular force is high.

Explanation:

Infact, sponge is compressible due to the presence of air in the minute holes. Hence, sponge can be compressed easily although other solids are incompressible. Answer: A sponge has minute holes,in which air is trapped, when we press it,the air is expelled out and we are able to compress it.
