Take a tray with dimensions about 40 cm x 30 cm x 10 cm. Fill it completely with wheat flour and level its surface plane. (1) Lay down a brick A gently on the surface of flour. Write your observtion. Then place another identical brick B on brick A. What change do you observe ? Write and explain it. (2) Remove both the bricks and level the surface plane again. Now lay down the brick A and place the brick B to stand vertical. Write your observations for the brick A and brick B. Explain the difference in observation of both bricks when placed on flour.

EXPERIMENT
Aim
To observe and compare the pressure exerted by a solid iron cuboid on fine sand/ wheat flour while resting on its three different faces and to calculate the pressure exerted in the three different cases.
Theory
Thrust: The net force exerted by a body in a particular direction. (Thrust = weight of body)This force is perpendicular to the surface. When you stand on loose sand or lie down on the sand, the thrust acting on the surface is same, but the effects are different. Pressure increases with decrease in the area of contact. S.I. unit of Thrust is newton (N).Pressure: The thrust acting on unit area is called pressure.S.I. unit of pressure = (N m-2) or pascal (Pa)
1 Pa = 1 N/l m2
