Take two test tubes A and B. Take about 0.5g of sodium carbonate
(Na,Co,) in test tube A and about 0.5g of Sodium hydrogen carbonate
(NaHCO,) in test tube B. Add about 2 ml of dilute Hydrochloric acid (HCl)
to both the test tubes.
a) Write your inference about the reactions and justify
b) What happens when the gas produced in each test tube is passed
through lime water

Answer:

a) The two reactions have similar products;

   Sodium Carbonate + Hydrochloric acid → Sodium Chloride + Water + Carbon dioxide(g)

Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate + Hydrochloric acid → 2 moles of (Sodium Chloride) + Water + Carbon dioxide(g)

b) The gas evolved is carbon dioxide. So when CO2 is passed through lime water, lime water turns milky white.

Answer:

a)The two reactions have similar products;

Sodium Carbonate + Hydrochloric Acid - Sodium Chloride + Water + Carbon Dioxide

Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate + Hydrochloric Acid - 2 moles of Sodium Choloride + water + Carbon Dioxide

b)The gas evolved is Carbon Dioxide. So when Carbon Dioxide is passed through lime water , lime water turns milky.
