In all the three conditions the circuit is same (refer the attachment)
The resistance between any two corners is 0.5 Ω.
The correct answer is (a)

But on what basis you neglect that R*?
No current flows through it because the voltage is same at both the ends (R=V/I=V/0=infinity). So it is open circuit.
