Subject: Report on growing isolation of elders

Sir,

I'm the daily reader of the newspaper TOI. I wants to drag your attention towards the growing isolation of elders even when they lives with their family. Due to large generation gap and busy schedule of people, the family couldn't response much to the elders residing in their own home.

I'll be very greatful to you if you can print a report on the isolation and make the elder people get some little attention in their own family.

Thanking You

Yours Sincerely

Anshu

Sir,

Our team has been doing a voluntary work to understand the plight of elderly people who are living away from their families and to help them cope up with their lives. We wish to bring some facts in your acknowledgement.

Thousands of elderly people have to live isolated as their grown-up children move to other places for their jobs and businesses. All they have is a few infrequent phone calls they receive from their children. According to a recent survey, a two third of the elderly people who feel isolated in their advancing years wouldn't tell their children as they believe they wouldn't bother about their miserably lonely life. This isolation and loneliness adversely impacts on their social life, physical and emotional health. As a part of evolution, humans have evolved to be social species, when this need isn't met, this may have emotional and neurological impacts over them. Though modern technology might seem like a bridge providing phone calls and web based contacts with society, the elderly people would still feel loneliness in their spheres as the need of 'being cared' is hard-wired in their brains.

Our team thinks it would be great if your prestigious media house can publish a detailed report on this to spread the awareness. We feel media can help us in our cause for a larger good.

Sincerely

Neha
