About Covalent and Ionic Bonds. ... Ionic bond, also known aselectrovalent bond, is a type ofbond formed from the electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions in a chemical compound. This kind of bondsoccurs mainly between a metallic and a non metallic atom.

Electrovalent compound MgCl2 and xovalent compound CCl4
1. Mg has a valency of 2+ and Chlorine has a valencg of 1- which means that the compound is formed when Mg gives away its electrons to Cl. No sharing is done in fact Mg is loosing its electrons and Chlorine is gaining electrons whereas in compound of CCl4 Carbon is sharing its elextrons with chlorine.
2. MgCl2 has a high boiling point as compared to CCl4.
3. MgCl2 functions as an electrolyte when put in its aqueous solution and conduct electricity unlike CCl4.
4. MgCl2 has stronger bonds than CCl4. (Ionic bonds are stronger than covalent)
