Fowler was a young and romantic writer who had read about the life of secret agents and was curious to discover them.
Fowler wanted to meet Ausable to cover him up for writing. He imagined that he would be thrilled when he will meet the secret agent. But he was disappointed because he saw him on an outmoded and prosaic fashion. However, he had his first authentic thrill of the day when he came across the room, Max was pointing his gun towards them in the Ausable's room as they opened the door, and switched on the light. Fowler found Max demanding certain important papers on missiles. He threatened Ausable that he will kill him. Ausable handled Max tactfully by telling him the story of the balcony which wasn't even exist. In that very moment , there was a knocking at the door. Ausable thus getting a golden opportunity mislead Max by saying that it was the police which he called to arrest Max. Meanwhile, Max jumped into the balcony and screamed once shrilly.
