A pole is broken such that the top of the pole touches the ground. If the length of the pole is 361 feet and the
pole is broken at a height of 156 feet from the ground, find the distance from the base of the pole to the point
where its top touches the ground.

Given :- A pole is broken such that the top of the pole touches the ground. If the length of the pole is 361 feet and the pole is broken at a height of 156 feet from the ground .
To Find :- The distance from the base of the pole to the point where its top touches the ground ?
Answer :-
we have,
→ Total length of pole = 361 feet .
and,
→ Pole broke at a height of = 156 feet from the ground = Perpendicular Height .
so,
→ Height of pole left = 361 - 156 = 205 feet = Hypotenuse .
since the pole remaining height and top of pole will make right angled ∆.
using pythagoras theorem, we get,
→ Base = √[(Hypotenuse)² - (Perpendicular)²]
→ Base = √[(205)² - (156)²]
→ Base = √(42025 - 24336)
→ Base = √(17689)
→ Base = 133 feet (Ans.)
