Tap A can fill the tan in 12 hr and tap can empty the tank in 36 hr. if tap A and B open to fill the tank with tap C empty to it. The tank will completely fill in 16 hr. In what time B can fill alone the entire tank?​

Tap A, B & C together fill the tank in 16 hr

In what time B can fill alone the entire tank?​

Solution:

In 1 hr, the part of tank filled by tap A = \frac{1}{12}

In 1 hr, the part of tank emptied by tap C = \frac{1}{36}

So, let the part of the tank filled by B alone in 1 hr = \frac{1}{B}

Now, if tap A, tap B and tap C are opened together, then according to the question, we can form an equation as,

\frac{1}{A} +\frac{1}{B} -\frac{1}{C} = \frac{1}{16}

substituting \frac{1}{A} = \frac{1}{12} & \frac{1}{C} = \frac{1}{36}

\frac{1}{12} +\frac{1}{B} -\frac{1}{36} = \frac{1}{16}

\frac{1}{B} = \frac{1}{16}\:-\:\frac{1}{12} \:+\: \frac{1}{36}

\frac{1}{B} = \frac{9\:-\: 12\: +\:4}{144}
