The difference between the taproot and the fibrous root are as follows:

Taproot

  • The main root with minor side roots is known as taproot.
  • It arises from Radical
  • Found mainly in dicots

Fibrous root

  • The thick hair like structure arising from the base is known as fibrous root.
  • It arises from stem leaves rather than radical
  • Found mainly in monocots

The taproot system is mostly present in the dicots plants having the main root system with sub root divisions. They arise from the radical, part of the embryo. They grow straight deep in the soil with having very few lateral roots system. They provide strength and support to the plant and sometimes act as storage organs for plant species.

The fibrous root system is found in the monocots. The group of roots are similar and small in size. They do not go very deep in the soil but creates thick coverage inside the soil which provides support to the plant.
