• She asked them whether she should sit down.

• He enquired where the investment was.

• She asked if they wanted to try.

• He asked how he was doing.

Assimilate:

In reporting a question in the indirect speech:

• The introductory verb is changed into ask, enquire, demand or some other similar word according to the sentence.

• Whether or if is used after introductory verb if the direct question is in either yes or no.

• The interrogative form is changed into declarative form, that is the question mark is removed and full stop is placed at the end of a sentence.

• The same word is used to introduce to the reported speech, that is indirect speech, if the question begins with the interrogative pronoun or adverb such as what, who, which, whom, when, etc.
