Taxonomy is the field of biology that classifies living and extinct organisms according to a particular set of rules based on their characteristics, features, traits, habitat, food habits, etc.
Taxonomy is a continuous work in progress. As new species are discovered, taxonomic groups may no longer be monophyletic i.e. species that descend from a common evolutionary ancestor or ancestral group.
Molecular analysis of any species leads to a major rearrangement of the traditional taxonomic status of any particular organism. The phylogeny of any species is also taken into consideration.
Hope it helps!!!!
