This bacteria performs nitrogen fixation for plants.
- Rhizobium, a gram negative soil bacteria, is found attached with legume plants at roots. They form symbiotic relationship with plants by deriving nutrients from them and in return fixing nitrogen for them.
- These diazotrophic bacteria convert nitrogen into ammonia making it available to plants.
- Other example of legume plant found in association with Rhizobium is soyabean.
