This bacteria performs nitrogen fixation for plants.

  1. Rhizobium, a gram negative soil bacteria, is found attached with legume plants at roots. They form symbiotic relationship with plants by deriving nutrients from them and in return fixing nitrogen for them.
  2. These diazotrophic bacteria convert nitrogen into ammonia making it available to plants.
  3. Other example of legume plant found in association with Rhizobium is soyabean.
