Since 1962, we the citizens of India are celebrating Teacher’s day for giving honour to our respected teachers for their great contributions in success of the nation. In India, month of September is referred as National Teachers Month and 5th date of September month is celebrated as National Teacher’s Day. The date of 5thSeptember is selected for celebrating Teacher’s day due to the birth date of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was the India’s first vice president and second president. He was the professor of philosophy and a great supporter of education. According to him, without education a person or a nation can’t move in a right direction. During the time of his professional career, he was much appreciated by their students and other young generation so he became inspiration for all. When Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was selected as president of India, his students asked him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, and then he replied “instead of celebrating my birthday it will be my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as National Teacher’s Day”. Since that day, the day of 5 September is celebrated as National Teacher’s Day in our country.
