The ancient Harappan Civilization, also known as the Indus Valley Civilization is located near the banks of the river Nile. Harrappa is the first city to be discovered in India, therefore this civilization is also called Harrappan Civilization.

In 1921 an archaeologist Mr. Daya Ram Sahni discovered the ruins of Harrappa. In 1922 an archaeologist Dr. Rakhal Das Bannerjee discovered the ruins of Mohenjodaro.
