The solutions to the problems in Sri Lanka are:
a. It would be imperative to rewrite the rules of the country Sri Lanka ,that would be based on power sharing arrangements between the Sinhala and the Tamils and not on the belief of Majoritarinism that sought to establish the supremacy and dominance of the majority community.
b. To give more autonomy to Tamil dominated regions.
c. To extend civil and political rights to the Tamil minorities and be sensitive to their interests.
d. To amend the constitution so as to give recognition to distinct Tamil culture, language and religion.
e. To make system democratic, accommodative, representative based on the principles of equality, liberty, justice and fairness
Belgium on the other hand witnessed following problems and dealt with it in the following manner:
a. Belgium is a linguistically diverse country comprising of Dutch speaking, French speaking and the German speaking people in different regions of Belgium. One may give example of 59% of population residing in the Flemish region and speaks Dutch language.
b. Capital city of Belgium, Brussels presented a different problem, where Dutch constituted the minority and the French speaking constituted the majority though the French were minority in the country.
c. Tensions primarily erupted between these linguistically diverse groups due to the economic gap that existed between the French and dutch speaking communities.
d. However, Belgium dealt with the problem and has provided for a perfect example of power sharing, by accommodating interest of both Dutch and French speaking members.
e. The country has a federal regime, with the existence of state governments and has a unique arrangement of community government
f. The Belgium Government provided for a separate government in Brussels with equal representation to both linguistic communities that is the French and dutch.
g. There is also a third kind of government that is the Community government elected by the elected by people belonging to one language community – Dutch, French and German-speaking. The Community governemnt decides on matters related to culture, education, language etc.
