A Figure of speech is where a word or words are used to create an effect, often where they do not have their original or literal meaning. some of the figures of speech are ,as follows :-
1. SIMILE :- when a direct comparison is made between two objects of different kinds which have at least one point in common, it is called SIMILE.
2. METAPHOR :- when an indirect comparison is made, it is called METAPHOR.
3.PERSONIFICATION :- when inanimate or abstract ideas are spoken of as having life, it becomes PERSONIFICATION.
4. APOSTROPHE :- when a direct is made to the dead, the absent or a personified object or idea, it is called as APOSTROPHE.
5. ANTITHESIS :- when opposite ideas are placed side by side for emphasis, it is called ANTITHESIS.
6. METONYMY :- when an object is designated by the name of something which is generally associated with it, is called METONYMY.
