Birbal died when he went on an expedition with 8000 soldiers to suppress a rebellion by Afghan Yousufzal tribes in the Swat valley.( which is now in PAK)
He was sent by Akbar to help a commander named Zain Khan who was already fighting the tribes.
While passing through the narrow pass in Swat valley, the army led by Birbal was ambushed. Birbal was killed and his body could not be found to perform his last rites. the emperor was deeply anguished by this tragedy.
