Step-by-step explanation:

time is = distance/ speed

niel time = 36/8=4.5hr

grant time =48/10= 4.8hr

so ,

Grant time - Niel time

4.8 - 4.5

0.3 hr more taken by Grant so,

=Neil journey was quickest

= by 0.3 hr

Given,

  • \displaystyle\sf{Distance\:travelled\:by\:Neil\:(D_1)=36\:km
  • \displaystyle\sf{Speed\:of\:Neil\:(S_1)=8\:km/h
  • \displaystyle\sf{Distance\:travelled\:by\:Grant\:(D_2)=48\:km
  • \displaystyle\sf{Speed\:of\:Grant\:(S_2)=10\:km/h

The time can be determined by the equation,

\boxed{\displaystyle\sf{Time=\frac{Distance}{Speed}}}

\displaystyle\sf{Time\:taken\:by\:Neil\:(T_1)=\frac{36}{8}=4.5 \:hr=270\:minutes

\displaystyle\sf{Time\:taken\:by\:Grant\:(T_2)=\frac{48}{10}=4.8 \:hr=288\:minutes

______________________________

\displaystyle\sf{Time\:Difference=288-270=18\:minutes

______________________________

\displaystyle\sf{(a)\:The\:journey\:of\:Neil\:was\:quickest.

\displaystyle\sf{(b)\:Neil\:was\:quicker\:than\:Grant\:by\:18\:minutes\:.
