Thrissur is a city in the south Indian state of Kerala. It's known for sacred sites and colorful festivals. In the center is Vadakkumnathan Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and adorned with murals. The ornate, Indo-Gothic Our Lady of Dolours Basilica is nearby. To the north, Thiruvambady Temple is home to several elephants. Sakthan Thampuran Palace houses an archaeology museum with bronze statues and ancient coins.

Centrally located in Kerala, Thrissur is known as the “Cultural capital of Kerala” and has been the scene of numerous events of historic and cultural importance. Thrissur is built around a hillock on which the famous Vadakkunathan Temple is situated.  Although the Zamorins and Tippu have ruled here, Sakthan Thampuran was the architect of the modern day Thrissur and the one who converted Thrissur into a commercial center.Thrissur is often referred to as ‘the pooram city’.  The architectural design of the city also worths special mentioning as it was envisioned by  Sakthan Thampuran, the ruler of erstwhile Cochin state. City located around a small hillock mounted by the Vadakkumnathan temple can be seen  scientifically planned.
