Sikhism was founded by \bf{\red{Guru\: Nanak \:Dev}} . It came into existence due to Bhakti Movement. But contemporary political circumstances transformed it into a military sect, called \bf{\red{Khalsa}} . In 1708, Khalsa rose in revolt against the Mughal authority under the leadership of \bf{\red{Banda\: Bahadur}} . The Sikhs declared their overeign making coins in the name of Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh rule by and established their own administration between the Satlui and the Yamuna. Banda Bahadur was captured and executed in 1716.

The Sikh territories in the late 18th century extended from the Indus to the Yamuna. But they were divided into the different rulers. \bf{\red{Maharaja\: Ranjeet\: Singh}} reunited these groups and established a Sikh kingdom covering the whole area west of Satluj with his capital at Lahore in 1799. However on the eastern side of the Satluj some small kingdoms of \bf{\red{Patiala, \:Nabha}} and \bf{\red{Kapurthala}} remained under different Sikh rulers.
