just count the square :

if it is whole blackened then put it into the M blanks

& if it is not fully blackened but more than the half , then count it and write down in the place of N

If it is half blackened Then it goes to P

& if it less than the half then into Q

just add up all = M + 3/4 of N + 1/2 of P + 1/4 of Q

for example : If we get M = 25, N = 16, P = 10 , Q = 8

then Area = 25 + (3/4 × 16) + (1/2 × 10) + (1/4 × 8)

= 25 + 12 + 5 + 2

= 44cm²
