Rock distribution in Maharashtra:

Western Maharashtra:

• Being a part of the Deccan Plateau, the rock that is naturally found in abundance here is the black basaltic rock.

• This rock is commonly found all over Maharashtra.

Konkan:

• The rock that is more commonly found here is the red laterite rock. This rock is also used in local construction works.

• Black basaltic rock is also found in this region but not as much as laterite rocks.

Eastern Maharashtra:

• Along with red laterite rock and basaltic rock, granite is also found in this region.

Central Maharashtra:

• This region has a huge percentage of black basalt rock and a small percentage of red laterite rock
